Bountiful Baskets

I am so grateful to have discovered Bountiful Baskets.  www.bountifulbaskets.org What a wonderful co-op and service they provide for the people of West Texas, along with many other states.
For $15, you receive a basket full of fresh fruits & vegetables...50/50 fruits/veggies.
This past Saturday was my first time participating in Bountiful Baskets and I am HOOKED!  Not only will I participate but I will also volunteer.
Along with the basic basket of food, they also offer add-ons.  I of course got had to get the Mexican food add-on...ok, I had to get TWO Mexican add-ons :)  What can I say...we LOVE jalapenos, garlic, cilantro, poblano peppers, etc.  (The Mexican add-on was $7.50 each)
We added on tortillas, granola (HOLY COW!  I've eaten granola most of my life & this was BAR NONE, the BEST granola!), and 25 pounds of dried beans/peas/lentils/etc.

This is the $15 basket.  Watermelon, apples, oranges, mango, strawberries, bananas, 2 huge heads of lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, asparagus, zucchini.

The Mexican add-on: onion, garlic, cilantro, jalapenos, 6 poblano peppers, hungarian sweet pepper, Mexican squash, limes.

It took some time: washing, slicing, dicing, roasting peppers, making salsa, and getting everything put into baggies.
My kids would be vegetarians if Dan and I didn't encourage them to eat meat, chicken, seafood.
Needless to say, most of the food is already gone (and we just picked it up on Saturday & it's Monday  morning).  Fresh fruit & veggies don't last long around here!
Next time, we will probably get 2 regular baskets.  You're able to get up to 3.

If they're not in your area, feel free to contact them!  They're always opening up new sites, where people are interested.  Next Saturday will be Oklahoma's first pickup!
